Spreading Depolarization SIGThe Spreading Depolarization SIG will promote the mission of the Co-Operative Studies on Brain Injury Depolarizations (COSBID) within ISCBFM. COSBID is a research interest group focused on the causes and consequences of spreading depolarizations as a pathologic mechanism in neurologic diseases. The group started as a clinical research collaboration in 2003 and has firmly established the clinical relevance of spreading depolarizations in various forms of brain injury. COSBID has since evolved as a research interest group of both clinical and basic scientists to accelerate and harmonize bi-directional efforts in translational research. The focus on spreading depolarizations also necessarily implicates related topics of interest to ISCBFM, including blood flow and metabolism, seizures, blood-brain barrier, inflammation, and edema. The group meets on an annual basis and has broad international participation. Further information is available at www.cosbid.org
Mission: The mission of COSBID and the Spreading Depolarization SIG is to promote research and education in the clinical science of spreading depolarization monitoring, encourage collaborative efforts between clinicians and experimentalists, and advance basic science understanding of spreading depolarizations and related disease phenomena. This is accomplished through collaborative research and development, annual meetings and symposia, and outreach to new investigators.
